Christian Bauer is an art project consultant and producer as well as a 3D specialist (Virtual Reality and Web3D / VRML Virtual Reality Modeling Language), consultant and book author. He was founder and managing director of several successful European start-ups in the CAD, computer simulation and Virtual Reality area and he cooperated with organizations like the NASA Ames Research Center (Intelligent Mechanisms Group), the Harvard University (Graduate School of Design), the German Aerospace Estab. (Dept. for Crew-Operations) and with companys like Silicon Graphics, Cosmo Software, Sense8, IBM Germany, the Ars Electronica Center and others. Over the years, he was able to establish good relationsships to many of the leading companies in the cutting-edge computer science area, particularly in San Francisco's Bay Area and the Silicon Valley.
Christian Bauer was 10 years (1996-2005) a member of Siggraph's International Committee (New Orleans, Los Angeles, Orlando, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Diego and Los Angeles), was Chair of VRML'99 (in Paderborn, Germany), Co-Chair of VRML'98 (Monterey), Member of Advisory Board for Virtual Reality Universe '97 (Santa Clara), Co-Organizer of the Virtual Reality World '95 (Stuttgart, Germany), Initiator of the Virtual Reality Vienna '93 (Vienna, Austria) and others. Christian Bauer is cooperating with the World Summit Award, an initiative within the United Nation's World Summit on the Information Society, held in 2003 and 2005, a major event for the global information society.
Today Christian Bauer works mainly for the art production company Artevent GMBH and it's artistic director André Heller in Vienna, Austria, as a producer/project manager, as an idea scout and technology consultant. Among the many projects done was the planning and design of several theme parks as well as the project management for the successful final bidding Germany’s for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ among others. Latest finished projects are the Extension of the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, the German Fussball Globus - visited by over 1 million people, the Football Globe Germany, a worldwide travelling ambassador for the Artistic- and Cultural programme for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.
Christian Bauer had from 1998 to 2002 year a teaching assingment (Lektorat) at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, the Institute for Urban Design and Regional Planning of Prof. Christoph Langhof, constructing virtual cities and teaching new media techniques and since 2003 regular teaching assingments at the Institute of Experimental Architecture of Prof. Volker Giencke (see e.g. the Liquid Architecture lecture series).
Christian Bauer worked from 1995 till 2006 as an evaluator and reviewer for DG-13 and DG-IST of the European Commission and has completed jobs in Brussels, Luxembourg, London, Glasgow, Paris, Angouleme and other places. Christian Bauer is holding a "Recognition of Service Award" from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the most influential non-profit group in the computing business, located in New York, for his achievements as Chair of the VRML99 conference.
